 Depending on the damage type granted by the Rare Headgear, it's either classified as melee or magic. They have [Melee] or [Magic] as a prefix in their names. While a lot of Rare Headgears, especially the newest ones follow this naming style, older Rare Headgears do not have these prefixes. As such, you might need to check their item description.
